Another Conspiracy Theorist Bites the Dust, Tulsi Gabbard Resigns
The most dangerous use of a senior intelligence position to try and spread and exploit conspiracy theories that were false."- David Rhodes, senior national security reporter, MSNOW
Tulsi Gabbard resigned today because her husband has been diagnosed with bone cancer. This is a terrible situation, and everyone feels for her family.
That said, as David Rhodes detailed, she did not find the deep state, she did not expose some secret plot. “Her effort as a conspiracy theorist failed…she has not exposed some great scandal.”
Rhodes calls for more nonpartisan experts in public health, the intelligence community, the legal world and less conspiracy theorists.
The question is who will replace her? Someone who might say even more crazy things? Tom Nichols, of The Atlantic, said it will have to be someone in an acting capacity because “The Republican majority in the Senate has just about had it with a lot of Trump’s mischief and would have a hard time getting confirmed.”
Gabbard is the latest to leave Trump’s cabinet. In recent weeks, Trump fired Attorney General Pam Bondi and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi L. Noem. Labor Security Lori Chavez-DeRemer resigned.
Gabbard was never welcomed into Trump’s decision making on important matters such as action against Iran or Venezuela.
Sen. Mark Warner who sits on the Senate Intelligence Committee said, “…At a time when the boundaries between verified intelligence and politically convenient claims have too often been blurred, it is critical that the [DNI] office remain grounded in facts, independence and the rule of law. The next DNI must be committed to restoring trust in the office.”
It is one more day in the insane Trump world of installing political, unqualified people in important roles because of one credential: they will bend the knee to Trump.
And because we still need to smile. My Winston:
